The Women’s Caucus for Art Florida Submission Application

Black and White

November 2023

Artists are invited to submit up to four black and white artworks for this show. Explore the theme of Black and White, which examines the metaphoric and physical nature of opposites attracting, repelling, and completing one another in a mind-body connect. The meaning of Black and White’s layers are complex and vary with cultural viewpoints, including shades of gray. We invite the viewer to determine the dynamic between the meaning infused by the WCA artists, their own cultural filters, and the interface between works in the show.

    Specifications:

    Work must be in some form of black and white including gray, NO COLOR. You can sign with color as some of us did or had dichroic paint or other material as long as it read as black. If the color is too obvious we will not display it.
    Up to four pieces total may be submitted. All media on 18”x18”x 7/8” (a little deeper is ok as Blick has run out of 7/8” previously). Cradled-Wood Panel will be accepted only. Wood panels can be purchased through Blick-panels. Link to purchase wood panel;

    Work must be wired for hanging. Attach eye hooks to inside edges of the cradle-bars. NO sawtooth hangers, please. Make sure the panel is turned so that, if there is a cross bar, it is horizontal.

    NOTE: Panel should be primed before painting. Edges should be black. (If they are white or wood, that is OK. Several were done this way and they had to be hung together, but black is preferred.) Tape sides for consistent clean edges while working. https://nancyreyner.com/2017/03/14/prepare-wood-panels-painting/

    Returning Artists: You should enter the same work as the last Black & White, but you can add up to 4 pieces total. Art House has more space than we have had at Hickman or Eckerd.
