Finally, the paperback version of my son the late Jaro Majer's and my book, A Leaf in the Wind, is available! It includes twenty-one of Jaro's devotional poems and twenty-two full color images of my watercolor and Sumi ink paintings. It's twelve inches square with sixty-four pages. I started work on the paintings during a residency in Mexico in March of 2017; they are of Indian leaves I obtained during a residency in India, and are painted in Sumi ink on a colorful watercolor ground.

These are responses to our book:

From the artist, Suzanne Benton:

Your marvelous book arrived yesterday. It is stunning. I wept as I held it in my hands... It’s a loving memorial for every child lost to everywoman. The depth of love between mother and child is truly profoundly shown. I’m especially blessed to know you throughout this tragic time. Art heals and tells the truth -- so sorely needed.

From the author, Elizabeth Sharland:

I have waited 'til now before writing as I was so moved by it I was trying to find the right words to tell you how wonderful it is... I still haven't digested all of it because it is so moving. I am so sad to hear your story and pain. But what a brilliant effort on your part to be able to express so vividly what your life must have been like after losing your son...

From Dee Perconti, artist:

What a triumph! It is such a deep mix of raw and tender, realism and the ethereal. I have fallen in love with Jaro through his words... You are so generous to let us into your pain by being heart-achingly transparent. This book is so much more than I ever imagined. No wonder you feel his loss so deeply. He is bigger than life.

Leaf in the Wind costs $34.99 plus $2.45 tax, and $7 shipping in the USA. Email me at rosemarie@rosemarieprins.com to request your copy of A Leaf in the Wind, or order it online. Venmo: @RoseMariePrins or mail a check made out to me to Rose Marie Prins, P.O. Box 15055, St Petersburg, FL 33733.

read a selection of Jaro’s poems during what was planned as the opening reception of Rose Marie Prins: From Bound Crosses to A Leaf in the Wind at Origami Air Art Studio in Sarasota on Friday, March 13. Like many events, the opening reception had to be cancelled due to the pandemic. The recent post on my blog, "Art in the Time of COVID-19," describes the "opening reception" as well as events during the months since you last heard from me earlier this year. .
